Borstal Barkers is only training UK Puppy Foundation and Bronze good citizen scheme courses pre closure.
After 15 years of training I am afraid the club will cease training in 2025. As courses are run and finished they will not be replaced by new courses. I will honour those that have started through to gold standard but will reduce what I am doing. New dates will be published when decisions are made. Next course, Nov 29th, December 2nd
I will honour the handlerss who have started courses and see them through till however far they wish to go, once completed I may just run puppy/bronze foundation and no more. I intend to stop training mid 2025.
A contact form is available on the site for owners wishing to reserve a place. The classes are kept small so early inquiry and booking is essential. Please include a telephone number for contact. Work amount does not give me time to keep logging in. to contact forms.
Our classes provide the training you require to ensure you end up with a balanced well behaved dog that is a pleasure to own. The classes are kept small so individual attention can be given, not a mass group which you could get lost in. We train at the Cleave Warne Hall Borstal Street Rochester ME1 3HL on a Monday and Friday evenings at 6,30pm. Courses last 10 weeks and must be booked
I am Ken Parr and I have over 50 years experience training and working dogs in many fields. I have been running Borstal Barkers on a small scale to suit individuals for some time. Classes are run according to UK Kennel Club guidelines. I am still training dogs professionally as a main career.
Our first course in dog training gives you the UK Kennel Club Puppy Foundation and Bronze Good Citizen qualification's.. Class sizes are kept small so places must be booked. The cost includes everything needed to complete the course, no equipment is sold, no surprise additional costs incurred.. Each course is 10 weeks long and covers everything you need to learn and more.
The Puppy foundation, Bronze course combination.
This course gives you the very basics, sit, down, stand positions. Taking something off the dog when in possession, recall, stay and food manners. I include a starter for the gate exercise and the controlled greeting. These are basics and the remainder of dual course is designed to give you the owner as much information about your dog. Nobody likes a dog which is out of control and becomes a nuisance when older, this course is designed to help you understand exactly what your dog is doing and why, guidance in nurturing the correct behaviors and laying the stepping stones towards further courses. During this course I teach you about points of inspection of the dog, how to groom and many other bits of advice giving you a more clearer idea of what you have on the end of your lead.
The puppy foundation/Bronze course.
Our only course is designed for pups and dogs and is a combination of Puppy Foundation and Bronze so you get 2 courses for the price of one.
Puppy Foundation.. This course gives you the very basics, sit, down, stand positions. Taking something off the dog when in possession and food manners. These are basics and the remainder of puppy foundation course as outlined by the UK Kennel Club is extended in Bronze Good Citizen scheme.
